My P-38 Collection

Hey guys,

I had a little free time on my hands here (very rare) and thought I would post a couple pictures of my two P-38's. They are both byf44's. The black handled one was given to me by a veteran. It is a little beat up on the barrel due to him carrying it in a Sherman tank. He replaced the screw for the handle sometime when he was in Europe.
The brown handled one was bought at a gun show about 6 years ago.
They are both all matching. (except for the replacement screw in the black handle)

guess i wont be shooting my p38 after all. i read some stuff about a tendency to blow uo top strap or something. anyway great looking set of twins.

I was reading that too....I have shot both of these numerous times and never had a malfunction of any kind. Hope the don't blow up on me!!!

The post war P-1's (West German P38's) are made with an alloy frame, and not a steel frame like wartime P38's), advice given on internet forums is to never shoot these with anything other than a factory standard round (no high performance reloads, +P ammo), high pressure loads could present problems with the alloy frames.

Standard wartime P38's are totally safe to shoot, although one might want to consider the collectibily of their P38 if it is a rare code with all matching parts, and may also want to get a new set of Wolf Springs to run in the pistol.... Chris...

Yes, Chris,
I totally agree with your assessment of wartime WWII P 38's. All steel, except for a very few extremely rare prototypes. I wouldn't hesitate to shoot any of mine. BUT the collectability of some of them might preclude that shooting. As it would with any collectable gun. Not just P 38's.
