Markings

I got the HP and a M1 Carbine for a MG42 parts kit. I did not even notice the marking. It is matching with 2 mags.

Markings

It just looks like it has been. I tried to get the best pitcure I could. It has no dips in the slide. It does look like the finish is worn over the markings. All of the machine marks line up.

I'll take your word on the finish condition. It makes no sense why a faker would have to grind an area to ADD a marking anyway.

Can you provide the letter block (if any) and the serial number range? I would guess this to be an early a block or a non letter serial before that range.

Thanks, it looks to be a nice quality finish for such a late one. Some were however. I've heard of HPs marked like this for decades. I don't recall seeing one before.

I am not a guru on HPs, I have had an interest in them for a very long time but have never found extensive documentation on them or have really had a chance to study hundreds of them.

If it was mine, I would carefully compare the mark under a loop with known original SSza stamps found on 98ks...they should be the same stamp as far as detail design.

I am now curious if 98ks have been found with that stamp that date from that late in the war?

I would believe that there are people on this forum that know if it is period applied or not.

Markings

I posted it on the p38 forum and the HP forum. Most guys slam it. They say it is fake. All I know is it looks real to me. I did not do it. I will try to get a few better pitcures. I am not saying it is real. I got it in a trade, and just posted it for fun. I do know it shoots good, and has a nice barrel. I have seen real SSZZA4 marked bcd 43 k98s. I think this HP is early 44 dated.

If nothing else you have a nice shooting, easy to break down and clean.I shot them alot when I was in the military, like them so much that I bought a commerical version for myself.
