I agree. This looks like the very well made mgc 68 japanese movie props that fired a blank with a plastic cap in the nose of the brass cartridges. Should be marked MGC 68 on the top rear just back of the receiver tube. They are still worth several hundred dollars. Steve

MGC68's from Japan were made in this manner........

I'll ask some more pictures from different angles but still I think it's some kind of copy. I don't dare to fire it, even if I could clear the barrel...
These MGC68's have been converted to firing blanks (the later made ones came that way)......But that's done by people who know what they're doing.......Converting it to fire original 9mm ammunition would again take somebody who knew exactly what they were doing......Bodes

If it is a Japanese mgc68, check for markings as in this photo: receiver, trigger housing and magazine. Magazine markings are 1016 below the eagle on this example. Steve

Even if I could let this fire again... The asking price is around 600€ + add the costs for the "gunsmith" + the fact that it's practically hold together by screws

It was a rather quick check so I only saw MP40, some numbers on the beginning on the barrel (I believe 80 and 8081) and on the charger MP38/40 or something.

I also have one question , so I pu it here, no need to open new topic.

Are MP-38 and MP-40 part interchangable?

U-96, I'm 99.9% sure that is an MGC68 copy of an MP40.....MGC68's have their magazine housing attached by 2 cap screws (I can clearly see them in yours and Steve's pictures).....Originals were pinned......Also these copies are lacking any sort of proofs.....I believe the magazine is the only place that has WaA's.......And lastly, I can see the barrel nut on yours/Steve's are castings......Originals were machined....Bodes

I just saw this thread. From the pictures it is without doubt an MGC68, if in very poor condition. Try flipping it over and look at the outside of the trigger guard. You should see the word "JAPAN" stamped into the metal like it is on mine, or "MADE IN JAPAN" like Steve's.

One other thing appearance-wise, the receiver housing/body of an MGC68 is higher than on a genuine MP40. The real thing has a thinner and sleeker look to it as you view it from the side.

Definately MGC68. Those screw holes are prone to break in the plastic grips....not as solid as the original bakelite ones.
Also the way the folding stock has come adrift gives it away.
Still got mine that I bought in the 70's before they banned them here in England, people were converting them to live .22LR!
I believe they then brought out a later version that was not as realistic.
