P 38 proof stamp

Hi buddies,

A friend of mine have this P38 AC43
Sorry for the poor quality.
On the right of the waffenamt there are a star or a sun, don't know exactly and also a circle.
So, could it be an acceptance stamp or postwar one and what about this " hole "

As far as I know, the asterisk is a reject mark.

If it was a sunburst, then it is a VOPO mark postwar for East Germany.

Ongoing discussion at gunboards on this mark.
Some say it is an accepted but out of specs mark.

Read somewhere that this "starburst" mark designated it for issue to the Staatspolizei. But as times got harder later on they were all sent to the eastern front. Those I have seen having this mark had it to the right of the serial number.

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure the asterisk is an acceptance mark of a rejected/reworked part. The dimple to its right is the mark of a hardness test.

Out of spec but usable...
and parts got worked back into production,,,IIRC
