How I wish I had purchased one or more of J Curtis Earls MP-38's, MP-43's. MP-44's, or new in the box MG-42's when I had the chance 20 years ago.

according to Wikipedia, the Germans made around 1 million of these.

My fiances grandad told me a few months ago, that in the 1950s he was at some military training at Åndalsnes here in Norway, and he told me they used MP40s as practise guns
... he told me that the recule from the MP40 was so strong, and when they fired with it, the gun moved upwards..they couldn't fire in a straight line... thats quite something 
He aslo told me that he LOVED the sound it made
He also served during the war, and he was in Hamburg (I think it was Hamburg) in 1945. He also got some service medal from the Norwegian King, and if im correct, he served in Batallion 51 or 55...
He is around 80 years old and LOVES to tell me about his war stories, and from the time AFTER the war, in Germany. I think he is just a great man and I enjoy talking to him every time I have the chance

The recoil from the MP40 is actually very manageable, the low cyclic rate and quite large weight allows for excellent full-auto control. Maybe they were using "hot" ammo in it (like Swedish m/39B) or it was a M1A1 or M3A1 (more likely)?Comment

I have no idea what ammo they used, and I doubt he's ever going to remember that himself..but he said the gun went upwards after some time, and it was a very funny weapon to use.Comment

My Police department has an mp40 that was purchased from the government back in the mid 50"s or early 1960's. It is registered to the department & I'm fortunate enough to take it to the range to "put it through its paces'!! It is an amazingly fun gun to shoot and very easy to fire one or two round bursts with it.
Oh, we also have an Mp44 as well!
