    It just walked in.

I'm not a collector of these but I got a call from a good friend a while back. His father had died and left this to my friend who wants nothing to do with firearms. Knowing that I collect uniforms, medals and paper he came over and said here-it's yours. He handed me a 1938 marked Brown Luger Holster and my heart skipped a beat. This is what was inside.......just given to me....

    John,

I hate you. Just kidding, nice score. I had a buddy do that for me, but with a price. It was still a good one at the time. Like an idiot, I sold it later. Dang!

    Regards,

    Frank

Nice P38 John, certainly the price was right. Looks like a war time production piece, possibly having been refinished and reground at some point, I mean those markings are poorly done by german standards. The cyq factory code on the slide correctly does not include the date and if this is the way the factory produced it, wow! they must have been in working overtime in production. Not sure how late in the war it was made but check out this thread:

A nice pistol though, any chance of a picture of the holster too?

                Will,
I did a little research on it and found out that it is from the Spreewerke factory that was situated on the German Chech border. The factory also made heavy guns so I've been told. The gun was made in June 1944 according to this P38 web sight. The gun has not been refinished and the blueing looks to be around 90%. I'll post the holster tommorrow for you as it's getting late and I'm heading to bed. The holster is a hardshell brown holster that has on the back Cark Ackva, Bad Kreuznach, 1938, an eagle and WaA286. The magazine has the same Eagle88 markings as the firearm. The pictures could be better as you already know, but I'm learning.............oh and theres also this little tool in the holster that is marked 31449.

That's a great way to get a great pistol. I hate you also, jk. I think you are right on june 1944. The tool in the holster may be for the luger pistol. Congrats on your gun ,oh research the writing on the back . I am betting thats where this pistol was taken. OOOPs I re-read your last post and the date wouldnt be right for capture , no idea but a nice pistol anyway.

Thanks for the holster pics John. A nice example which certainly matches the pistol, lots of character.

I believe you have a Luger holster with your P38. Spreewerke P38s are very roughly finished since the factory wasn't really geared up to do fine finishing and yours appears to be a typical example. You have a nice example of a wartime P38.
