I think he said punt gun which is a large smooth bore used for waterfowl. There are 2 in the North Carolina history museum and several in the Maritimer's museum (Beaufort) that were used by market hunters. They were usually lashed to the boat but some were mounted as swivel guns. Most were pecussion but there were 8 gauge, 4 gauge and 1 1/2 " breechloaders. I will take a pic of one of the Eley 1 1/2" shells from a friend's collection if there is any interest. It looks like a big flare shell.
