    M1 Garand sling

    Hi;

    I just picked up an M1 Garand sling that was in a group of ten that my local gun dealer aquired. When I looked at them behind the counter on a shelf, I noticed two were Khaki and upon closer look, they had the WW 2 buckles and hardware, identicle to the one in Duffs M1 book. One was unmarked and the other was marked with a large crown and three letters like A.T.L. (not sure)
    they both had that been there look, soiled slight ly and a rust mark where the buckle was. Any one have a clue to these slings, Aren't real WW 2 M1 slings scarce? They were all priced the same, $18.95. I grabbed the one unmarked and I am going back on Tuesday for the one with the crown. These are not repros! Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks geopop

    Sir, the slings you are looking at are most likely Danish. The crown and three letters gives that away. The US loaned the Danes thousands of Garand rifles after WWII. They are very convincing as WWII originals.

      Could it be HTK under the crown?

      I have a sand coloured sling with no marks. I used to think it was from early danish use?

        M1 Sling

        I am sure those are not the letters and they are at the other end of the sling, not under the crown. I will check it out on tuesday.

        Danish? I was afraid of that, not my luck at all! However I will keep the unmarked one and convince myself it is WW2
        Are genyewine WW 2 slings hard to find? I may still buy the other one.
        Thanks much for your help! That sling sure looks convincing, wonder what the differance is?
