Hi, Nice LP-42's, However an LP42z is the same style flarepistol WITH RIFLING for the high explosive grenades. That is what the "z" stands for.

Now all you need are the other makers and maker codes of the LP-42," de, sww, qyn, wc, and hasag ". Good luck !

        Signalman.

Are you sure this version of the flare pistol came in a "Z" version
with the rifled barrel or "Kampfpistol" ????
I have a Kampfpistol, but it is of the other design...
I was not aware these came in a assault version as well....
I'd like to see pics of the barrel rifling. This is news to me.
I'm sure you know more about it than I do; just trying to learn here...
        Thanks.

          Hi,

Like CaptainHoot, these flare pistols are LP42 model but no Z reference or link.

The Z model is based on the Heer Model flare gun which is quite the same as the LP 34 Model.

I would be very interested to see a LP42 with a rifled barrel !! Never seen it (even in a book).

          Have a good day.

              Lp-42 "z" Version

Hello, Yes I have an LP-42 "Z" with rifled barrel. It is "HASAG" maker marked serial #025. I know of one other. I am not a full member yet, so I am not allowed to post a photo. Good Collecting, signalman

My avitar is a Krieghoff single barrel flaregun with muzzle break on the *** forum. They are I believe used to fire the grenades that are made for the smoothbore heers and lp42's

I wonder why the first LP42 is blued, I thought the were all bare as the second one.
                Is this period done?
                Thanks

Most are bare metal, parkarized, or cadmium plated. The one with the 1"25 marking is from Israel ( post-war re-use ), and most that I have seen are arsenal or importer reblued. I have not seen a FACTORY blued example as of this date, except for the Hasag marked LP-42 Z model.

                      Hi
I am not an expert in flare guns but I have seen LP42 that were blued and that did not have those 1" m25 markings.
I think that those were identifyied as early LP42's.
Also all of the blued ones were maker marked euh
                      Any truth here?

Nice LP`s...I know what you`ll do above that Spanish bay on December 31 ;-)

that 1" m25 marking is postwar I think...that`s what I heared last month..

Anyway..they were different types...blank and bleud...and even some grey??!!

                        Best regards Tommy

To say the LP42Z is rare is an understatement.

I know of 2 in collections in the US and of 1 in Europe.

I may be wrong but I think less then 5000 of the LP42Z were produced.

SIGNALMAN may have some beter production figures than I do.

I have yet to see on in the flesh. I belive one was located last year or the year before in a pawn shop some where in the USA for $300 USD just by chance.

Every LP42 that I see at gun shows etc always get the "finger in the barrell" test......because you just never know...

                            Hi whsammler,

Thanks for your comment. If anybody have some informations concerning the LP42 'Z', I'm really interested.. For instance, some pictures, I can post them for the joy of the others flare guns collectors

By the way, do you remember what was the code on them ? euh, wa, cyn, aso ?

Thanks in advance for any tips, link, documentations or pictures about this subject...

                            Best regards

                            Bruno

Hello, both LP-42 "z" pistols are maker marked "HASAG". Both are two digit serial numbers. Mine is #025 and was purchased for $100 almost 35 years ago.

When I bought it, I had no idea it was a "Z". I bought it because of the Rare Maker code, and low serial number. It was almost 5 hours into the show before I looked into the barrel and got the most pleasant shock of my life.

As far as I know, a production number of 5,000 seems much, much too high. I really think these are pre-production prototypes or test guns. I doubt that more than 100 were ever produced.
