The Germans used as second line Weapons for drivers etc.. Old French Lebel Rifles and Carbines, and some of these weapons were inspected by the HWa and issued, such as the French R-35 Carbine..There is picture evidence of the R-35 8mm Lebel Carbine beeing used by KM personel in the Channel Islands...There was also 6.5mm Dutch and other Foreign ammo produced by the Germans...BILL

I saw this thread some time ago and finally got around to taking pictures of my example of the M1886-M93R35. I am a bit out of my collecting realm here so if anyone reads anything on my web site they feel is incorrect, I would appreciate knowing about it. I only purchased this rifle because it had German markings on it.

Bill,
I finally caught this thread and don't know how I originally missed it. I have a great interest in the foreign small arms used by the Wehrmacht, but I had always assumed that they had captured enough ammo along with them. This is the first I have seen that they produced ammo for them.
Thanks for sharing this with us!
Cheers,
Johnnie

As asked for, here is the head stamp on 8mm Lebel produced under occupation in France... 8mm Lebel.. Steel cased Manufactured in 1943.. Markings are TE at 12 o'clock, 43 at 3 o'clock, C at 6 o'clock, 4 at 9 0'clock.. These were packaged in 8 round packets with German Language Labeling... In the 12 round Boxes the ammo for the Lebel was just repacked French ammo with German Labels.... They also produced ammo for the Bolt action Polish AT rifle and many other foreign ctgs...
