Very utilitarian for any type SMG application.

I took one on a long op once with two of those bags full of mags.
Like to beat me to death.
Went back to CAR 15 with BAR belt.
Also had a M79 vest with mags in pockets.

I remember when I was in 'Nam in '69 there was an RTO for the artillery FO that carried a grease gun. As indicated above it was handy when burdened with a radio. I also remember an officer test firing his M3 down on the green line. He was holding at arms length and firing it like a pistol! I actually thought about asking to fire a few rounds.

My uncle was telling me some things about his experience yesterday,
concerning an M3...

BTW, my (late) Dad was a Special Ops. guy as well. I'm not sure if he
had any time with a Greaser; never asked him. It would have been
interesting to know....

I didn't mean to denigrate the weapon, it was effective and worked well enough - I just don't find it the most aesthetic gun ever fielded

As stamped and welded guns go, the MP40 looks so much more elegant, don't you think?

for machined, the MP41 and the Thompson both look GREAT with the walnut stocks.

The M3A1 can't have been anywhere near as popular with the toops as the M3. I wonder if it was possible to get "M3 finger"?

I never thought much of the M3 either, until I had the opportunity to actually fire one. I really like the greasegun's low cyclic rate of fire, which makes it easy to keep on target. I'd love to have one of my own!

Captainhoot,

You did very well finding finding the mag caps and gun cover in such a short time. Believe me, it took a LOT longer for me to find those items when I was seeking them many years ago. As long as the M3 and M3A1 remained in service, I have no idea why the gun covers are so hard to find, but they sure are.

Great accessory collection to a great piece of history !! --- Had a chance some years ago to buy an M3A1 , foolishly passed it up , kicking myself ever since ! Thanks, for sharing the pix!!
