    MG-34 production dates

A friend of mine, a class3 type, sent me an MG-34 parts kit (minus reciever) The back of the barrel shroud is marked DOT 1945 7874.
Does anyone know if the Czechs kept the MG-34 in production post May 1945, or do I have at least part of one of the last MG-34's made?
Also would like recomendations for good references on MG-34-42, and MP-40.
    Thanks,
    Johnnie

    Mg34

    John,
"You do have a German production MG34" and YES the Czech's did keep the production going. The Germans continued to produce these up untill the end of the war.
    Hope this helps!

Waffenwerke Brunn were the last manufacturer of the Mg 34 all the other previous makers had swiched production to the Mg42 the brunn werk continued to make guns for bunkers and tanks and also to keep a supply of spares for existing weapons still in sevice.
Mg34s marked 1945 (DOT) are the most common very late Heavy mg that collectors can get though I would keep it safe because anything dated 45 is collectable.
Does your barrel jacket have the distinctive few holes unique to waffenwerke Brunn? Heres a picture let me know if its the same

PS try mg34/42 by Folke Myrvang
OR German machine guns by Musgrave

      Both are very good books

        Hi Robert and Sean,
Thanks for the replies. Sean, yes, the barrel shroud is exactly like the one circled in the photo, with the "gaps" in the line of holes at the beginning of the shroud where it screws into the barrel extension. Interesting thing, as I clean through the grease that these parts have been packed in for God knows how long, I havn,t yet found a waffenamt on the barrel shroud near the other markings where you would think one would be. The barrel itself is in excellent condition, and waffenampted with a simple eagle/hakenkruetz and underneath W.A. and no numbers. Just below that is another Wehrmacht eagle. Just above the Wa it is marked 7.92, which I suspect is the exact caliber the barrel guaged out.
As this is a parts set, I am sure all of these parts came from several guns. The feedtray cover has another serial number.
I am thinking of finding one of the non-firing recievers I used to see advertised and building this up as a display gun.
        Thanks for the info guys,
        Johnnie

Shortly after war ends were ZB vzor 26 assembled (3000 pcs.) from spare and semifinished parts.

dot 1945 MG 34 with panzermantel

Dear Sirs. Can you please answer me if there where produced MG 34s with panzermantel marked dot 45 after the war had ended? I have heard that it was and that these are without WaA stamps as the only difference.

Hope that you can help me in this matter.

              Hi Hilton
This is a tricky one , these MG's were produced until the end of the war for tanks apc's and Armoured forts , but it is possible to find a post war weapon made up from some wartime and some postwar parts and as the heers waffenampt were conscripted for front line military service in 44-45 no waffen amps do not mean a post war weapon as many late war pieces have far less waffen ampt marks than earlier weapons or have none at all .
Does your MG have matching no's , or any other markings such as small three didgit manufacturers marks other than dot?.

              Regards
              Sean
