    k98 ID please

    these are the photos I have received so far...what do the markings indicate and what other shots should I request?

              What you got there is a very nice Mauser Standard-Modell carbine or a "Banner Mauser", the pre-war commercial version of the Kar98. The only issue I see is that it looks like the bolt and the reciever don't match.

              Some more photos of the reciever markings and some shots of the whole gun would be great.

                The bolt is probably WW1 Gew98 bolt. best regards,Andy

                  I agree with the comments already made. The S.s. I've never seen before? Could it stand for Schweres Spitzengeschoss?

                    That'd be my guess. It is in the "big S, small s" script that you often see Schweres Spitzengeschoss abbreveated as.

                      Th sS designation does refer to it being regulated ( sighted ) for the heavy ball bullet loading.
                      The bolt is definately from a gew98. That it's been scrubbed up and refinished is no doubt , and the wood looks like it's been refinished as well.
                      If you are looking for a shooter I guess this fits the bill , but it's collectibility is rather limited.
