Erma EL-24 .22 Cal Insert for the G33/40?

I recently bought a .22 cal Erma El-24 insert, marked to a Jaeger Regiment and supposedly out of a G33/40 carbine. It has a short barrel, other than that looks like a normal unit. Has anyone ever seen one of these in collections or vintage photos?

    Regards, Robert

Can you provide us with some specific measurements and other information, like barrel length, acceptance proofs, single shot or magazine and so forth. Perhaps a photo with a yardstick in the grouping?

Looks like the right length for G33/40 but could have been shortened at the muzzle end. I'd examine the muzzle crown carefully. Did it come in its box and does the box show any alterations to accomodate the shorter barrel?

                        Hello Craig,

Thanks for weighing in. The unit came out of a G33/40 rifle, which got sold seperately, and didn't have a box. s/f Robert

Having Weimar proofs, I personally have doubts it was built specifically for a G33/40.......The G33/40 didn't come into the German small arms use until 1940....Modified to fit a G33/40 perhaps, but not built specifically for one, IMHO......Bodes

...which is why I am curious about the muzzle crown. If crudely done, that is one thing, but if professionally done, that is another, but even so, we still don't know who did it.

I understand the point you're making. These inserts don't have much of a crown like a conventional muzzle, and this piece looks as well finished as the conventional insert I have.

Has anyone ever seen such an insert in a captured rifle, or in period photos? I could have been post-war cut down, though it would seem strange to destroy a piece that fits common rifles for a relatively scarce carbine. Who knows?

I appreciate the input, fellows! s/f Robert
