Original imho
I'd put it as original. There were usually stampings on the little square tab next to the 2 rounds - something like 'abc 09/40' is what I have on mine.
cvo would have been manufactured by Stocko Metallwarenfabriken, Wuppertal-Elberfeld.
check out www.germanmilitaria.co.uk (a brilliant site) for details of the different starter tab variants.
Post war examples aren't usually marked with the cvo, or on the tab, and one corner of the square tab are sometimes rounded off.
Hope that helps

Yup, I'd go for a wartime one too. I have a few starter tabs including two or three CVO ones and I'm sure one of the CVO tabs has a waffenampt on the end bit that hooks into the 50 round belt - I couldn't swear on it though as the tabs are stashed away and so ain't handy to get at to check so I could be wrong and it may be one of the other wartime marked and dated ones I'm thinking of but I'm sure there was one on one of the CVO tabs (the other CVO tabs have no waffenampt)?

Looks just like my cvo tab. I vote for original. I also have seen tabs that were refurbed during ww2 where the Nazi workshop marked a repair date on them. I have also seen tabs that the Yugoslavians repaired post-war where the links on the tab are different from each other, mix of wartime and post-war links on the same tab.
