proof mark
Hi Jasper,
I know for sure that the crown means it's a proofmark from Denmark but the rest i don't know.
I have taken a quote from "The standard directory of proof marks": page 157 says: "Denmark never entered the firearms export market to any degree and did not join the Internnational Commission so little is known about the history of proof, proof methods or proof rules as they existed in this country"
That's the best i can do.
Greetings,
Theo

That's correct but according to what i can find in my books is this type of crown used by Denmark. I have found for example the same crown but whit the letters HV underneith, what means: waepon made by Haerens Vaabenarsenalet.
I can't find the same type of stamp as used on your waepon, only the crown, i'm sorry.
greetings,
Theo

That is indeed a possibility. I've never heard about such a stamp being applied on guns deactivated in Denmark though.
Neither have I. Deactivation is done by independant gunsmiths as far as I know. They don't apply a "national" stamp regarding deactivation.
Are all other stamps on this gun normal? Are there any post war stamps? Is it matching numbers?

It's the same one I posted for opinions in another thread recently. All other stamps are normal but it's only semi-mathing in numbers.
In any case, I've decided to return it. It's actually a nice early piece with the slab side mag housing, and the price was fine, but I'd rather wait for something that's A-OK and pay more.

MP40 stamp
Hi Jesper,
The above comments make sense re a Norwegian proof mark. As you've now returned it, why not get together with Mons 1914 (below) and see if he'll sell his? I know there were several German-spec de-act MP40s around a couple of years ago but they tend to weld a pin up through the barrel nut into the barrel and have six holes in the barrel under the barrel rest. Quality of weld can vary.
Maybe you could try there and hope for a sympathetically de-acted specimen.
Good luck,
Phil
