anybody know anything about percusion pistols? i got one from my uncles estate in virginia. very very strong resemblance to hill and anthonys book confederate longarms and pistols page 289. missing front elaborate rod and assembley but superior gorgeous wood. all appears to be correct period. very good shape. advice ? thoughts? referrals? tanks, thanks . pitts

Give me a day or two and I will see if I can find out anything. I have the Hill reference that you cited and I number of others. I doubt that this next statement is EXACTLY correct but, I would say that generally the CSA did not contract for the manufacture of single shot pistols. However, they did contract for the conversion (to Percusion) of a good number of existing examples and some states may have contracted for a few to be made as late as the late 1850s thru 1861 or so.Originally posted by pitts duncan View Post
Regardless of the exact accuracy of my belief above, I do know that these type of single shot pistols were used in good numbers by Confederate forces...and yours could very well be one of them.
