I Have A German Pistol, On One Side It Has J.p. Shuer @ Sohn, Suhl Cal 7.65 The Other Side Has Patent. The Serial Number Is 343964 And Has An Eagle With An N Under It. Im New At All This So I Would Like Some Information On It If Anyone Has Anything. Thanks. Ernest T. Bass

i also have a j.p. shuer and Sohn 7.65 #308677 with the Shuer spelled out on the barrel. I also have what i think is the orignal leather holster. You can still see Otto Sindel Berlin 1940 embossed on it. I would love to get a sense of what it might be worth. Also i am thinking of taking it to a gunsmith. I shot it a few time last year and it stove piped quite often. If it is valuable and smithing would reduce its value i may reconsider. Here it is..

there is an interesting collector's fact about this pistol that I find entertaining.

Just as there are many incorrect assumptions about pistol collecting, I think the sauer 38h takes the cake. The earlier collector publications said that the sauer 38h slide remains open after the last shot is fired...... And I read that for decades people just assumed their 38h was not functioning correctly.... Then it was revealed that the 38h is not supposed to have slide remaining open after last shot is fired.... anyways, I love this pistol and regret selling the first one I owned, so now the hunt is on for another.........

Nice police issue 38H. I have several and have never had a stove pipe. It is usually a magazine feeding problem. Are you using full jacketed ammo?

As a point of clarification for Ernest and jmc91199. A police issue 38H is worth considerably more to a collector than a standard 38H. jmc91199's picture clearly shows the Police Eagle C marking on the front web of the trigger guard. Ernest, if yours doesn't have this marking, it is not Police issue. Just an FYI
p.s. These are fine little pistols that were ahead of their time design-wise.

Moreover, jmc91199’s Sauer H has a checkered magazine button. Some police (and ONLY police) Sauer Hs do have this feature. According to a police decree of 1943 police authorities were ordered to alter the mag buttons of Sauer Hs produced before 1943: the height of the mag button had to be lowered and the surface had to be checkered.

But this was carried out only on a few pistols. Consequently, police Sauers having the checkered magazine button are rarer than police Sauers with normal buttons.
