The Mk42bs were issued to GD and a couple of other units for field testing in late 42. The FJ to my knowledge never got their hands on the 42b, they did later get the MP44/STG44 however.

First one comes from "Die Deutsche Wochenschau", german war time newsreel and it was about the fights in the Oderbruch region.

Second picture was published in a newspaper to describe the battle for Grabow (and Schwedt bridgehead on the Oder river) on February 1945. I was able to find 3 pics from that place (but I think I've seen two more somewhere...).

The MKb42(H) in MP43 "A" form was issued to Herres Gruppe Nord in April 1943, 2000 were shipped for evaluation. Großdeutschland were refitting at the time after the third battle for Charkov, I have no record of them being issued MKb42's in any form. GD were transferred to East Prussia and the Baltic states in July 1944 and the only reason they would have MKb42's at that time (as I see it), with MP/StG44's in full distribution, would be that they got them from the initial lot of 2000 for the Heres Gruppe Nord.

As far as I know the MKb42 modified to fire from the closed bolt was named MKb42(H) 'aufschiessend' or MP43 B. I remember that Handrich in his 'Sturmgewehr!' mentioned problems with proper names for modified weapons - and there was something about the MP43 A as well.
