I am going to be getting a Yugo SKS, can anybody tell me how good they shoot.

I can only speak for the two I've shot, mine and one belonging to a friend of mine. I found them to be excellent shooters and very accurate. I could group 5 shots with mine that you could cover with a silver dollar at 100 yards. Not bad for a semi auto surplus rifle with iron sights.

I've found the Yugoslavian SKS to be a very accurate rifle. They are just as reliable as the Soviet and Chinese SKS rifles I've shot.Comment

I plan on getting one tommorrow, it sounds like it would be a good investment. The one I am going to get will have cosmoline all over it, what is the best way to remove cosmoline?Comment

There are lots of different ways. You can use brake cleaner to do it fast or you can use a solvent like Hoppe's #9 and take you time with it.
Keep the brake cleaner off of the wood and don't forget to thoroughly clean out the gas system.
I think that they are would be a decent investment. They are the finest constructed SKS's I've ever handled.

I didnt get it, they were too much money and they were rude at the store. I will probably get a chinese one or a yugo from a gun show.

My understanding, and perhaps someone can correct me if I'm wrong, is that the Yugo SKS's are heavier than most, because the Yugoslavians had difficulty obtaining a reliable supply of a trace element (maybe molybendium?) and so had to bulk them up a bit to compensate for weaker steel.
For this reason I have been more interested in one of the Russian ones were I to get one.Comment

While the Yugoslav guns are functional, IMO they are not the best ones built. For me that honor goes to the original Russian guns (not the reworks, and not the very earliest which needed some engineering changes). And to a lesser extent the early Chinese which were built on Russian machinery. (Some of the earliest Chinese even had some Russian parts.) FPComment

I am selling a K98k bayonet to pay for a Chinese SKS. I prefer an original stock SKS, I dont want any of these nasty sporter stocks on it for now.Comment
