Living in south Fla very near salt water, I have my guns stored in my safe and keep them wiped down with BreakFree CLP. I have used it for years on both my collectable guns and my hunting guns with no rust problems at all. I frequently carry a blued pistol in a IWB holster and also keep it wiped with BreakFree with no rust issues. Of course my house is A/C controlled and the humidity is also so that helps. I think that any of the top gun oils will work well but Breakfree has tested tops in many test.

I have mine up in the attic in either zippered gun cases or wrapped in cloths. The attic has a couple of small vents and I always fear that the pieces will rust when it rains, but they never do. Maybe it's because I live in CA.

For years--20 at least, I have kept my lugers and long guns in a ProSteel safe with a Golden Rod dehumidifier in the bottom of the safe. I have been using Ren-wax on the lugers and then keep them in white, all cotton socks that cost about a buck a pair at Sam's Club. Lately I have been using Ballistol on the long guns. So far, so good. Tomt

I have started using EEZOX a synthetic product that cleans, lubricates, prevents rust and finger printing and leaves no oily film and is dry to touch. The military in Iraq and the local gun shop guy swears by it.

interesting product, i read their website info and it sounds good. but you are in california, and I am in corrosion capital of the world, cape canaveral... So I'm not sure how a dry to touch product could be moisture resistant enough for me...

I also read the warning about grips.... wood is ok, but if it contacts rubber grips, you have to wipe it off right away until dry... makes me worry about the mottled brown grips on my two ppk's when they now cost 400 dollars to replace...

                here is their warning..

NOTE: EEZOX******174; is not harmful to ORIGINAL factory wood finishes. If product comes into contact with rubber grips, wipe until dry.

Since I "stays" out here on the High Plains, I can assure you that humidity is NOT a problem. So much so, that we are often obliged to jump up and down just to work up a pee!!
However, when I get a new (to me) gun, the first thing I do is disassemble as much as possible, and hose it down all over with Break Free CLP. I let the thing "soak" overnight, and in the morn, even the most stubborn cosmoline will clean up. I then store with a light film of the CLP remaining. Later, when I handle the weapon, I always wipe down with a silicone impregnated cloth. That takes off all the fingerprints, and after several applications, seems to leave an invisible film of protection. Rust, my compadres, is rarely a problem.

                  Tally Ho!!
