help me name a gun, please

My friend is asking me to find out what the name of a certain allied one-use air dropped pistol that was for the french resistance or other allies.

He didn't describe it too well, was there really such a one time use gun like this?

Liberator pistol, 45 caliber, single shot.

I hear you can only shoot it a few times before your hand bleeds.

    Hope this helps.

thanks, that's probably it, i'll forward that too him.

it's strange i never heard of it. I have a degree in history and took wwII senior seminars. guess we focus on the politics too much.

The OSS also used a glove pistol.

It could also be the; Welrod silenced pistol, that was used behind enemy lines by SAS, SOE, OSS, Commandos and the Resistance.

Also for possible use in Vietnam, the "Deer Gun" was made, but never used.

I hold a Liberator in my hand right now, crappily made but hey, it's original!- fropped behind enemy liens to shoot a German with a single shot, then capture a good Mauser that way.... As far as I know, the allied "Volkssturm" Pistol Version so to say. Many Vets were after a Luger or P38, very much undesired bacl then, but wanted pieces today!

                        liberator

I also own a Liberator and always thought that the original destination for them was to Europe but that did not happen. Another forum member informed me that most were sent to the Phillipines--1,000,000 produced and were used with limited success. Eventually most of them were disposed of "at sea". They were manufactured in Anderson, Indiana at the Guide Lamp division of Delco-Remy, a part of GM. Cost to produce was somewhat over a dollar each. The disposal "at sea" accounts for the rarity of them. The last value I saw was about 2K for the piece without the box and cartoon and 3K if everything was intact. I had often heard them referred to as the "OSS Liberator". Definitely an interesting piece. Tomt
