    how many grains for p08?

    hello
i would like to ask anyone who knows
which is the right ammunition for luger po8 and how many grains it is reccomended?

The 124-grain bullet is usually recommended for best functioning. I've shot 115-grain loads in my 1918 Erfurt, however, with no trouble.

German issue ammo was 115 to 124 grain depending on whether it was lead cored or scintered iron. The key thing with a Luger is making sure that the ammo is hot enough to operate it. Current is pretty decent but up until the late 1990s or so US manufactured 9 mm ammo was pretty weak as compared to the European stuff. At that time the Remington and Winchester 9 mm ammo would not reliably function across the board in Lugers.

I haven't fired a Luger in many years, but I would suspect that most of the 9 mm ammo on the market now would work. If you want to replicate the look of the steel-cased German ammo go with Wolf. S&B (Seller & Beloit) is good stuff as should be the current Winchester military spec ammo.

I shoot Sellier and Bellot 124grain full metal jacket brass cased. Muzzle energy is 518 joules which about where you want to be with a Luger much less and it won't cycle. However a word of warning don't use hot ammo with a Luger. The weak point of the design is the knee joint on the toggle. Repeated use of hot ammo will break it. I once saw a luger where the whole top slide snapped with hot home loads. If you are going to load your own its better to start low and work up until the gun cycles. Enjoy the luger shooting experience nothing else feels like it in hand really. I love my two matching number guns so much I have just bought another one just for shooting matching number guns are way too valuable now to shoot.

            Regards Craig.
