Pardon the pun. Last night I was once again pondering the presence of a hollow point on a German 9mm 'Kurz' round I possess for the MP44. Also known as a "Dum-Dum" this nasty little round would do terrible damage to anyone it struck and their use was more or less outlawed as long ago as prior to WWI. And yet, there it is.
So here is a thread with pictures illustrating three different types of German munitions for your enjoyment (not easy to photograph) and if anyone has info regarding the existence of my hollow point, please enlighten me.
Left:
7.92mm 'Kurz' (short) round for the MP44. Lead core with a copper jacket. Notice the factory made open cavity exposing the core. Steel casing with a shellac finish to prevent corrosion.
Right:
7.92mm round, standard issue for the K98. From a 1935 dated 10 round box. Lead core with full copper jacket. Brass casing.
