    Opinions on weapon please

    Hello
I have a chance to purchase this weapon and need your help because I don't know that much about them.
It's by Gesichert 1939 maching numbers. Holster has SS markings on it. looks original to me.
I would like to know what its worth?
    Thanks
    Mike

              Hi Miken,
Your Luger is made by Mauser.
'Gesichert' means safe. you will notice that the safety lever covers gesichert when the safety is off.
Can you post some better photos?

The holster looks ok but i have never seen one with 'SS' markings.
Why designate a batch of holsters for SS issue? I don't see the point of it.

Although the Germans were sticklers for 'red tape' i do not think they would bother marking holsters with SS runes.

              Steve.

                Better pics I hope.
It has a number 42 on top which means Mauser I guess. Ser.#3941

                            Hi Mike,

All of the Third Reich era P.08 holsters that I am familiar with are made so that the top of the back of the holster also serves as the hinge for the flap. The WWI era P.08 holsters used a different piece of leather for the hinge. Since that is how your holster is made, I would assume it is a WWI era holster that has had markings added.

Original late thirties Third Reich military holsters were stamped with a "waffenamt" which is an inspection marking and is made with an eagle over a swastika over "WaAXXX" where "XXX" is typically a two or three digit number. I can't see the "WaA" below the eagle over swastika on your holster. If it is there, then okay. If not, that would not be correct.

                            Regards, Leon

The holster was manufactured during or before the first war. The fact that it has had a "1939" date added to it would be enough to scare me away from it.
