    Matching k98 byf 44

I have the chance to buy this untouched gun. All matching, sling, great bore etc. I am in negotiations. How high should I be willing to go for such a piece? Thanks for your help.

What's the seller asking? That's a good place to start, and how badly do you want it? I could tell you what I would pay, but what's your estimate of value??

Better pics. would certainly help, esp. closeups of numbers on bolt, small parts, etc.

It appears to have all machined parts and serial #'d front band (possibly '42-early '43).....So bands, along with pretty much all of the gun will be serial #'d.....A desirable piece to a collector IF undinked with in any way.....I'd say anything under $1200 would be a good deal....Bodes

I'd say the gun was made well into 1944 based on a few features. Front band and trigger housing look stamped to my eye.

"I'm sorry Moe, I just can't get used to these bicycle focals".......Now that you mention it, I believe the recoil lug does looks later.....I also believe I see indications of the front band being stamped......Looked milled to me at first impression.....Better pics wouldn't hurt....Bodes

I'd say more than 1200 USD is expensive. It's always hard to estimate a price for a K98k because people have such different views on what is a fair price. However based on how things are over here I'd say 830-1000 USD. But I am comparing two different markets so read with a grain of salt

Looks good to me. I see byf44's selling for good money. I think since they are a bit more common, people are more comfortable with judging originality. I would gladly pay $1000 for that rifle.

Top 44 rifle. Here in Norway all 98k`s produced after 43 is a bit rare.
The late ones went to the frontlines and the few late variants left in Norway in -45 was not valued good in the post war army cause of the steel quality...
