Help, quick..matching K98 treating surface rust...

Picked up an all matching beauty....what is the best way to attack small areas of surface rust?

CLP is junk for any type of cleaning...too thick and very light on any rust breaking abiltiy. I use it for little of nothing ...it's that useless.
The best rust buster for your needs is KROIL ( kanolabs.com ) used in conjuction with 3 or 4 ought steel wool and a nylon bristle brush. Scrub & flush method ( with Kroil ) to keep any rust particulate from being ground into any remaining finish underneath .
CLP is so snotty thick in comparison it leaves anything that has been broken loose sitting there with it's uselessly thick viscosity. I still cringe when I think of cleaning machineguns and M16's with that crap while I was a grunt !. I did manage to befriend the supply puke and get gallon cans of RBC...that cleaned !. And I used the CLP for post assembly wipedowns...and even then it was marginal at that too.

I too have heard negative comments about BreakFree......Leaves a type of film on gun metal surfaces.....Some seem to like it, while others not.....Bodes

For light surface rust I use G96 gun treatment and #0000 steel wool. Apply oil and let it sit for 10-15 minutes then rub with steel wool, then wipe with a clean rag. Repeat as needed. I've never had any of the blueing come off.

I agree with Jack,I use to work in a gunshop and the owner was a big believer in the stuff. I have bought it at gunshows and have seen it for sale at area Dunhams Sporting goods stores. Besides that the stuff smells great.
