    9mm Beretta Auto ammo

    Hi,

    here I got a box with 2 clips 9mm Fiocchi ammo. I got it today at the shooting range, for free
    The box is stamped 23 MAR 1943 on the back-side.
    The text on the front of the box:

    20-CARTUCCE CAL.9 mm-20
    per moschetto autom. beretta M.38
    SU PIASTRINA

    The cartridges are all stamped: GFL.9.M38 1943
    The clips have no markings.

        Nice Box of M38 ctgs...

        Very nice Beretta sub-machine ammo.. Not to be used in the 1910 Glisenti, 1915 Glisenti or Brixia 9mm pistols even though they will fit and are the same size, the powder load is too strong for the pistols the pistols used a reduced powder load..... The M38 round is the same as 9mm parabellum or 9mm Luger ctg...BILL

            Nice box of ammo - thanks for showing it.

            A local U.S. Army Air Corps veteran friend of mine has a Beretta M38/42 subgun, along with a quantity of original ammunition with headstamps similar to yours. The veteran gave me 30 or so loose rounds of the ammo, when we recently went to shoot the gun and I declined to use the original ammo he offered. Instead, we ran 300-400 rounds of Winchester "white box" ammo from Wal-Mart thru the gun.

            The ammunition he gave me came from one of his 40 round magazines for the gun, that he keeps loaded with original Italian/German issue ammo. The gun and ammunition were obtained by him circa 1945 at a former Luftwaffe airfield (where his P-51 squadron was then based) near Nurnberg. The 38/42 was a gift to my friend from one of his fellow pilots, who had located a quantity of them while "scrounging" for souvenirs.

            My understanding is that, circa late 1944/early 1945, the Beretta 38/42 was officially procured by German forces as a substitute for the MP-40, during the period when MP-40 production was being phased out and MP-44 producion being brought on line.

            Anyway, the vet has been searching for sealed boxes of the M38 ammo that he believes are among his numerous war-related effects. Thus, I very much enjoyed your photos and hope that my veteran friend soon locates some similar boxes of ammuntion that he will pass on to me.

            BTW: Yes, the 38/42 in question was registered in the NFRTR via the U.S. Treasury Department's 1968 amnesty registration period.

              This box was left here in Holland in 1944, the guy were I got it from had it from a former policeman. And he had it in his possession since we were liberated.
              And there were no Italians stationed in our neighbourhood
