duv 42 k98 markings

My rifle is marked "duv" and "42" on the receiver. But between the duv and 42 there is a number "6" (same size as the 42). Anyone know what this means? I could not find any info in "Backbone of the Wehrmacht" or on the web. Thanks.

Never seen that on a K98k before? So no help from me sorry. All I can do is share your curiousity over this. Could it be a production mistake?

bolt is mismatched.

The waffenamts have "214" under them.

i see no signs of mischeif so i would say some one in the last 60+ years after the war added this mark.

Thanks for the reply. This came from the vet's family with capture papers, I doubt if they messed with it. Not sure why anyone would add a "6" to it anyway.
