    Confused ??????

I just have a quick question and I hope somebody out there knows the answer. What purpose does the take down disc on the stock of a K98 rifle serve. I have been scratching my head a while about this so please don't laugh to hard.

It is for dis-assembling the bolt of the K98.

Thanks Matt, with that information I was able to look up on some sites and even see how it was done. Thanks,

Shawn, The "takedown disk" is used to give the soldier a place on the rifle, to assist in compressing the firing pin spring......This allows the complete breakdown of the bolt without risking damage to the firing pin tip.....Of course later in the war, these were omitted in lieu of a hole in the buttplate.....Bodes

I also believed it served a dual purpose of a locking bar through the disc while on the arsenal rack.

I'm not laughing, I've had my K98 for five years, I knew what was called, cleaned it, but didn't know what was for, thanks guys!

No problem Shawn. I had another member on this forum ask me about this before. Believe it or not, I actually talked to him over the phone, and explained to him how to dis-assemble the K98 bolt using the take down disk, and he was able to do it sucessfully, over the phone!!

I don't think I could explain it in writing here though?

                Hi Matt,

I can definately see where it is rather difficult tp explain. But with what info you gave me I just typed some words into google and it led me to a site where they took the bolt apart picture by picture. Thanks to all of you gentlemen who answered this tread.
