    Came across first 38H today

    I've started looking for a nice 38H for my collection.

    The one I came across had Nitro proofs on the rear slide and the breach and was marked with the Eagle 37 for military acceptance towards the front left of the trigger guard. It had the side thumb safety. Mag was correct S&S mag.

    Only problem was the finish. It was thin and worn and had turned to light plumb color.

    Price was $250.00 No holster.

    I am wondering if it was worth it for an original but worn finish or if I should look for a better copy?

    Other interesting find...

    I also came across an Excellent CZ-39 pistol with issued holster. Original bluing at 95%. Price was high at $850.00

    If the CZ was indeed in the correct hardshell holster then I would think that one in the condition that you describe....the price was right on.

    As for the Sauer...I always recommend getting the best condition that you can find. It may cost a little more but it's the way to go.

      Look back a couple days on the postings, I put up pix of my "new" Sauer Eagle C. I'm going back for the other one if it's still available. Late War pistols tend to have a thinner finish, Early War will be much better. I paid 380$ for my Eagle C. Do a look at completed auctions on Gunbroker and Auction Arms to get a feel for what they are going for. Chris...

        Thanks. I have been using GunBroker, AuctionArms, C&R Buds List, and my "Standard Catalog of Military Firearms" to get ideas on value ranges.

        I'm going to go back and have another look at the CZ Model 1938 (39) and check it thoroughly and and bring some walnuts to crack... ha ha!

        Yes, it had the original hard shell holster.
