    My latest conquest.....

    Hey Guys.

Here is one of my latest finds that I thought was neat.
It is a 1942 AC P-38 , with capture papers.
What I find interesting is, is that it is for a LT., signed by an Lt. Col.
Most capture papers are for the enlisted troops, at least that I have
    seen, anyway....
The one magazine is not numbered, but does have Waffenampt 359.
You'll notice as well the typo. on the capture paper , where the " g "
    was mistaken for a "9"...
Nice condition, with a little holster muzzle wear on the left....
    Enjoy.

          Thanks John.
I thought it was interesting anyway. Maybe not, judging by the
          lack of reponses....
Thanks for your support. We'll keep the light on for you......

              Hi Andrew,

Your "g" block ac42 should not have a numbered magazine. They stopped doing that by about the end of the "c" block. The original correct mag for your pistol should have P.38 on the left side with no "v" following P.38 and the single E/359 waffenamt on the spine.

That's a very nice set to have. Congratulations.

              Regards, Leon

                      Andrew,

Like you, most (if not all) "capture papers" I have seen are for enlisted men, signed by an officer. Under the then-applicable military regulations, all war trophy firearms had to have the paperwork - regardless of the rank of the guy bringing the gun home. None-the-less, my understanding is that the real enforcement efforts (if any) were directed at the enlisted men and the officers could pretty much do as they pleased.

I am aware, however, of a local medical doctor in my area who has a nice 1940 dated P.08 w/ holster that he brought back from Austria at war's end. At that time he was a Major in the medical corps. His capture papers for the P.08 are signed by one of his fellow physicians (and close friends) with whom he practiced side-by-side on a daily basis. The other physician was his commanding officer and held the rank of Lt. Colonel, so he had his friend sign the papers.

As R. Blue mentioned, the "Mailing Certificate" type capture papers are not seen very often.

Hope that all is well in Jacksonville.

                          Andrew,
I've got over 30 or 40 guns with paperwork....only 1 with a "Mailing Certificate" so hold on to it until you are ready to sell it to me!

That is a nice pistol, hope I find one just like that.

P.S, the capture papers were made so a soldier wouldnt mail home his issued rifle(am I correct? as my Grandpa told me this)

That's an interesting idea, and there's probably a lot of truth to your post....I had never heard that before, though.... .
I have a WWII Veteran, that was a Paratrooper. I'll have to ask him about that......
                              Thanks.
