    B-Patronen 7,92

    Here something I want to share with you all.
    A box with the original ammo in it. The rare German B-patrone, Beobachter- Patrone.
    It is an ordinary 7,92mm only with an explosive bullet.

    First a scan of the label...

              Hi Peter,

              Your 1943 auy lot 59 tropical box came from the same lot as mine.

                Leon,

                Its interesting to see that both our labels have the same printing characteristics/flaws.

                  I have a single box which unfortunately is missing one round.

                  Cartridges are marked: edq - S* - 8 - 41

                  edq should be Deutsche Waffen- u. Munitionswerke AG. L******252;beck?
                  S=Stahl? *=Reinforced cartridge?
                  8=?
                  41=1941

                  I don't know the meaning of the text on the box label?

                  I made some quick pictures:

                        Thanks for the help Peter.

                        I have some other 7.92x57 rounds that look similar to the ones discussed in this thread. However I think they have nothing to do with the B-patrone. These have black points.

                        9 read at the bottom: P413 - S* - 8 - 38
                        1 read at the bottom: P151 - S* - 3 - 39

                        Pictures: http://www.germansteel.net/Black2.jpg & http://www.germansteel.net/Black1.jpg

                        Does anyone know why they have black points?

                          Fantastic boxes guys....
                          Especially the verbesserten from Kurt... And I sure love the ones with the steel-case

                          And IMO about the black color on the bullet, is to make a big difference to other ammo. Some sort of warning color difference for the German troops.
                          I know that in the beginning this ammo was introduced it was only allowed on the Eastern front.
                          And that was an official F******252;hrer-Befehl.

                            Hi P08,

                            The black tips on the cartridges you show mean that they are tracer cartridges.

                            The headstamp info only has to do with the casing, itself, and nothing about the other cartridge characteristics. That's why it's so important to collect by box rather than just rounds. If the box is separated from the cartridges, a lot of interesting info is lost.

                            Regards, Leon

                              Thanks. Can I use this as a rule of thumb? All tracers having black points?

                              Yes it is best if one has the box, but in this case I haven't.

                              Excellent thread everybody. Educating and with fine pictures! Good job
