      answer

Triangles with numbers usually indicate East German rework.

Captured by the Russians and then passed over to their mates in East Germany at a later date?

I have a G43 with a triangle on the left rear frame in front of the toggle safety ...no numbers in the triangle just a triangle ....the rest is all matching AC 44m WAa 359. serial numbered stock matches the gun. Heres the mark

closer look at the triangle mark

OOPS...NOW I SEE WHAT MAY BE A 3 INSIDE THE TRIANGLE..or maybe not a 3 at all. IS THIS A SCARCE VARIATION for a G43??? There are no other russian marks i have noticed, just german. So this may have been captured at the russian front possibly?? Or maybe to russians the germans surrrendered to at the end, or forced to surrender to. Then maybe a border guard rifle...wonder if they improved the innards. Anybody have any comments ??(other than take it to the G43 forum.) The buttplate is south american opens out to the side... cleaning rod sterile blued, and has a sling.( i know it needs oiled)

Gotcha....that is totally different ...thanks loads for posting the shot.

Heres an update to the mark found on the left rear of frame. It turns out it is NOT considered to date ...a post war mark, and NOT what i thought. I wrote to apfeltor, who by the way is a nice guy, and is very helpful to the G43 community as he makes all the parts to maker them safe to shoot.

He wrote me back a day ago after an inquiry by me on this mark, and he states that ...He and also the guy who wrote the book 'hitlers garands" both are of the opinion that these are a production code. On apfeltors museum site for the ac G43, he shows a heart in the same spot. Listed as forging lots.

                          http://apfeltor.com/html_pages/rifle.../hobnails.html

Scroll down to 4th from last on left to see the heart mark in same spot. On the g43 site i had this question asked for me, and they stated there were other marks also..i believe a square. So far we have triangle (or pyramid) ,square, and heart, anybody have any different marks in the same spot on their G41's or 43's? Now were getting somewhere.

more information and many links here at mr espeholts site: for those who are not aware of the combined links .http://claus.espeholt.dk/ (enjoy)

from several other g43 forum members ...state diamonds circles, and the number 5. Further stated a K43, and ac45 with a heart, and my other G43 DUV 44 is marked with a five also. The AC44 shown is an M after serial number.(359WAa)all matching except the buttplaste is a side loader considered a south american type...cant figure out that one at all.9why it isnt a flip up) If anyone has any other marks different on that part of the frame, id appreciate hearing about it.

Im not writing any book, just curius as many seem to not notice this area on most guns, maybe we can help the authors.

Most of whats known is what guns in collectors hands tell the people who are trying to compile the information. If anyone willing , and dont feel ive hijacked this thread, ill list mine by serial number, letter mark after, and frame marks, and makers marks , and this might help some of the interested , who knows. This is a sorta hidden thread...not easy to locate..Ill start with one, and see if anyone else is interested enuf then I'll post the other. (dUV44)

AC44...sr# 2534m WAa 359 matching (even the stock) w/ triangle on left rear frame.
