i was looking at a case (760rnds) at a show. steel, laquered cases, sealed primers/case mouths made in 1976. it was reasonable price-wise. anyone have any experiences w/ this ammo? most of all: is it corrosive?

I guy that I know shoots a laquered, steel-cased 9MM round, which I think is South American in origin, in his MP40, and he reports that it is very dirty to shoot, and that he has to sometimes clean the chamber during a shoot as it gums-up from the laquer coating.

robert, it shoots pretty good but i'd only shoot it in a less than perfect bore. i was shooting a byf44 mauser that already has a bore "like a coal mine". i'm no fan of corrosive stuff but i got this in a trade (free). use plenty of GI bore cleaner!!!!

I have heard nothing but good stuff about the Romanian surplus 8mm. of course, like any surplus, it is corrosive, so just clean accordingly. it is apparently one of the lighter loaded 8mm surplus, and thus is safe for your delicate semi-autos like the G41/43.
the lacquer will begin to melt and gum up your chamber if you do some rapid fire. wash the rounds in acetone before firing to remove the protective lacquer, and you will be good to go.Comment
