What weapon is this for?

I have had this thing for a while, and would like to know for what weapon it is, what nationality, and what period. It looks like something for a 50 cal machine gun to me, but from an airplane, a tank???
Someone cut some pieces off to use as scrap metal.

Hi JL, I am not 100% certain, but I think you are on the right track thinking US .50 cal Browning aircraft gun.

I think it is the type of ammo feed used in the waist position on the Boeing B17. There is a name for this peice of kit, which I have forgot, but I think you will find it was designed by Howard Hughes.

I would think that the Feed chutes would be standard for both the B17 and B24 waist gunners...BILL
