    Flash suppressor/hider?

    Hello,

I picked this item up yesterday,it looks to me like it's a flash suppressor/hider for an artillery piece,am I correct?

It is stamped with a number and the British broad arrow acceptance mark.
Is there any way to identify which gun this would have been used with?

I placed a 40mm projectile inside and this seems to fit perfectly, passing right through the hole without touching.

I'll post some pics so you can see better what I'm talking about.

    All help appreciated!
    Kind regards,
    Andy

                Hi Andy,

It definately could be a flash hider for the 40mm Bofors gun. It looks like the one they used to use on the M42 Duster which mounted two cannon and was a self propelled AA vehicle used by the US Army.

Thanks for your reply Gary, much appreciated!

I'll have a search around for more info on the Duster.

                  Cheers,

Just found a pic of the 40mm gun used on the Duster, looks totally different to my example,it's not cone shaped but a 3 pronged affair.

The only pic I have found of one looking like mine is on a British anti aircraft gun.

                    On with the search!

                    Cheers,
                    Andy

                      Hi Andy,

The pronged hider came out as the second variation. Then in Vietnam they totally did away with the flash hider all together. I will see if I can come up with a picture of the first type.

Here's the pic I found of the Bofors anti aircraft gun,the flash hider looks to be similar.

                          Cheers,

                            Hi Andy,

Look up the US Halftrack M15A1. It is a AA halftrack that used twin .50 calibre Brownings and a 37mm cannon. The flash hider looks even closer.
