8mm K98 Ammo?

Hello,

I have recently aquired a few boxes of German 8mm 1938 ammo. I was wondering if this ammo was used in the K98? Each box contains 10 rounds and 2 stripper clips. There are several different stamps on the clips themselves which are shown in the pictures. I will keep a few of these boxes and might be listing the rest on the e-stand for anyone that might be interested.

Can anyone provide me with more information on this ammo?

It is Austrian 8mm for the M30 rifle. Not for the k98k at all. Not sure what it is worth, but not as much as a German 8mm box.

Hi, Willi is right..

It is for the Austrian Steyer-Mannlicher M30 8 mm, not for the Mauser K98k.
It is made in Austria. The ammo and clips with the eagle stamps are produced after the Anschluss with Germany in 1938.
The other ones without the bird and swas. were made before that historical happening.

Mauser K98 uses 7,92 mm, and no 8 mm....
They don't fit, and don't even try it.... For your own good...

Hello. I actually have two Steyr-Manlicher Rifles which will find their way to the estand soon. If nobody minds I will use this opportunity to show some photos. If someone objects the moderators can delete with no complaints from me.

First the rifle itself. I believe the one below is a Steyr M95/30. It was a full length M95 (as in 1895 when they liked really long guns) that was cut down in the 1930's. Sorry for the crappy lighting, I haven't figured out a good way to photograph guns indoors and it is raining outside.

The W Eagle 33 at the top is a proof marking. W for Vienna (Wien) Eagle for Austria and 33 for proofing year of 1933.

I can't identify the other marking, nor the big S which I missed with the pencil, though for some reason I want to say that it means that it has been proofed for the higher power S-Patronen.

Two interesting things about this gun for me. #1 it is a straight pull bolt action. That means cycling the bolt is only back-forward, not up-back-forward-down.
