I have an Iron Cross that belonged to an old lady who's a life long friend of the familiy. Her father was awarded this Iron Cross during his duty in WWI. Now I finally also got a photo from the old lady. It's her father in the middle of the middle row holding the water flask. Ironically he survived the war virtually unhurt only to die in a work accident a few years later.

I'm now trying to find out more about this person and the equipment.
So if any of you can answer any of the following questions I'd be very thankful.
What kind of ammo pouches are those in their belts? For what rifle are they?
What kind of bayonets are those? For what rifle are they?
Are the helmets for parade use only? I can't imagine they went to the front with such helmets?
Finally, when do you suppose this photo was taken?
