    Sniper Rifle Scopes..?

Ive seen ads in Shotgun News lately for 98K "Sniper Rifles"....and they state that the 98K Rifles are in Good Condition and also that the Scopes mounted on the Rifles are Reproductions Scopes...but they have all the WW2 Waffenamts and markings.....is anyone familiar with these..??..Ive got a Mint all Matching 98 K..DOU 1944 Mauser...that I got from a Vet friend of mine over 10 years ago...he brought it back himself....but I really dont want to "mess with it"....so Im thinking of picking up another 98 K Mauser and putting a scope on it.....But Im not sure about these Reproduction Scopes.......I would like to hear some opinions and experience of anyone with these.....by the way....the "German Sniper Rifles" Ive seen for sale with these scopes are around $1350.00+..........I look forward to any response.....Best Wishes....Hans Fischer....the Ole Retired Army Sgt..

      98 K Sniper Scope Repros

Thanks for the answer.....Yes...Ive seen some of the Mitchell Mausers.....I was in a local gunshop picking up a P-38 I had ordered...the guy next to me was there to get his "WW2 Mitchells K-98".......I didnt say anything......What I was thinking of doing was picking up a Good 98K at a Military Show....say at the SOS Show in Louisville in February....then getting one of the repop scopes..(if they are any good)..having a Gunsmith put it on for me......it would be to keep...not for resale.....Im Retired Army and just want one to put in my Collection...and cant afford the $4,000-$7,000 prices I see on "Original Sniper Rifles"......Ive seen the scopes advertised for around $550.+.....seems kind of high if they are reproductions...thats why I had posted the note wondering if anyone had any experience with them.....had bought one...maybe a friend had....etc...etc...and their opinions.....any help and opinions is very much appreciated....I just wish when I was stationed in Germany..(West Germany)...back in the early 1960s...that the ole saying....."I knew then what I know now."......WOW...no telling what real sniper scopes were going for.........anyway....let me know....mucho thanks......Hans Fischer......."The Ole Retired Army Sgt"

Hi Hans, I have seen the scopes at a local gun show. I guess they would be all right to make up a sniper. Whatever you do, do NOT drill holes and wreck your all matching gun with one of these repo scopes. Personally I would just avoid them as they do not look that great. best wishes,

Hi..thanks for the response.....Yes...Ive had a number of folks email me to leave my matching 98K alone.....which I am taking the advice and doing.....now Im just looking around for a good price on a decent looking 98k with Waffenamts....then Ill try and find one of the scopes.....and see about putting together a Sniper Rifle just for me to keep....I dont plan on reselling it....probably doubt Ill even shoot it...(did enuff fireworks in 26 years Military)......anyway....if anyone knows of a site or dealer that might have some decent 98ks with Waffenamts....let me know....also any advice on places to pick up a scope will be appreciated also.......I gotta tell you....The Wehrmacht Forum is AAA++++...Fantastic site.....anyway....drop me a note if anyone knows of 98K Sites and/or Scopes...its very much appreciated......Danke....Hans Fischer..."The Ole Retired Sgt"

You might want to look here:

            http://www.coledistributing.com/

(search for "zf39" from their main page)

They sell a complete repro scope and long side rail mount.
