    Period Luger Photos.

Recently acquired these from the "dreaded" eBay for a display I am working on. Thought some of your guys might enjoy them or maybe share some of your own?

Heck, don't limit it to Luger, as I would love to see some period firearm photos!

        Love your picture Steve!

An unstaged photo in a bunker and kind of takes you back to the trenches!

I see you collect Lugers. I have spent a couple of months keeping my eyes open for original WWII Luger photos for a display I am working on. I am very happy with these ones and may try for one more. Unfortunately, these are the only ones I have so far.

Hoping I can see some more period pictures with weapons that I can lust after and that other members will enjoy seeing!

        Cheers, Carson

          Carson,

Thanks for sharing those amazing pictures. Are you looking for only for WWII-period pictures? I have seen some nice shots from the First World War also!

Just one comment: the Luger that appears in the second picture looks like a Model 1906 (or Commercial) pistol. I am saying that because the lenght of the barrel: the standard P.08 had a 4 inches (102mm) barrel while the 1906 model had a 4.75 in (120mm) thinner barrel. This would be a very interesting thing to see in a WWII picture, but maybe I am wrong.

I would like to hear what the other forum members has to say about it! But it is a great picture anyway!

Well, I am looking forward to see other pictures from your collection as well as the display you have been working.

          Wishes,
          Douglas.

Very interesting in these photos the way the pistol is held while shooting, not your current military/police "combat" stance training.

Nice period photos, thanks for sharing them.

                Awesome picture Francois!

Do you know what unit or branch your soldier is from? I would assume this is summer dress, but the "whites" remind me of the Navy.

I have been hoarding for a couple of months, so will get my new additions and post them shortly.

BTW, sorry for the looong delay in reply Douglas, but very insightful post on my one picture being of a Luger variation. I was not aware these even existed. I am still working on my display, as I await my 1942 9mm rounds to be made inert. (Have to do that in Canada)

Would love to see any pics of luger use, WWI, WWII or up to 1960. The pictures say so much about the period they were taken in.

                  WooHoo, More Luger Photos!!!

Got this one from fellow WAF member Marcus Ortner. It is a winter trench scene and the soldier looks lightly dressed for the season? There is also an automatic firearm resting in the snow bank, but I have only researched Lugers, so any help identifying it would be great!!!

This one has a neat story to it. I got it from Germany, and the ebay vendor did not speak English, so I had to have a friend of mine from Germany help me with the purchase.

There were several reasons I wanted this photo for my display.

                    1) I thought it was a terrific period picture of the P08 holster in wear.

                    2) This soldier reminds me of Mr. Spock from Star Trek. In particular, the episode of the world mirroring the Third Reich. He not only has the uniform, but the elongated face and nose of Leonard Nimoy!

                    3) My German friend who helped me purchase this photo told me of a story told him by his Grandmother. She had told him that during the TR you could "forget your luggage at the train station, come back 2 days later, and it would still be there." My friend said maybe this train station guard/soldier was the reason the luggage did not go missing, and the frauline who came back for it asked to take his picture, which is why he is smiling?

Who knows, as he told me this story before I found this photo. Just kind of strange how it worked into my display theme!

                    Hope you enjoy it.

Fire61, I don't think thats a luger, it looks like a P38. Nice photo anyhow.

Which photo are you talking about JaimeH? The winter trench photo?

Any insight you can share would be great. Thanks.

Yes, the winter trench photo, it's a p38. The machine pistol is a MP38 or 40 with a frozen or new sling (the way it sticks up), but he's dressed rather casual for winter weather. Interesting photo.

Oh, thank you very much Jason and JaimeH!!!!

Nice observation on the frozen sling JaimeH. I originally thought it was part of a forestock, so it kind of threw me off. I did notice the soldier's gloves underneath the machine pistol, but figured he was dressed lightly because he just came out of a warm bunker along the trenchline?

Glad to have the updated info. Unfortunately the display I am working on is for a P08/Luger. If anyone is looking for a P38 period picture, please drop me a line.

Thanks again for the info. Will see about posting another Luger picture tomorrow!

Be nice to see some more period firearm photos!
