An Interesting US 30-06 Round Found in a Field Jacket

A hollow point 30-06 round, one of four I found in the pocket of an M-41 jacket from a collection of MP items I picked up recently. Headstamp is "REM-UMC 30-06". I was thinking perhaps he wore this coat deer hunting however from some of the other odds and ends stuck away in pockets I don't think he wore this coat post-war. Any ideas?

Looks hollowpoint to me, illegal according to the Hague convention.

    So its a deer round.

That is a standard round of hunting ammunition, probably the old 1960's period 180 grain hollow point spitzer.

Correct me if I am wrong, but that would be more of soft point than a spitzer.

if you want I'd buy it from you to give to my old man as an memento, but it probably would be better to drain out all that powder, never know if its been in the washing machine.

Thanks for the information! I get the feeling then that this guy never bothered to empty out his pockets. Apart from the ammo there were a couple of .45 rounds, some cigarette butts and a lot of loose tobacco, some wrappers from C-rations, four French WWII period coins, a couple of late 30's dated pennys, a little address book that's falling apart and other various and sundry pieces of crud! I can picture him looking around for an old coat to wear out hunting and pulling this out of a trunk somewhere!

Mike, if you want the bullet pm me your address. I'm not that keen on keeping old ammo in coat pockets.

            Hi Mike,

Ooops! I meant to say flat base and got sidetracked on something else. Thanks for spotting my mistake!
