I don't know for sure but I bet this is covered in great detail and photos in Folke Myrvang's new (at least it's new-er) book. Judging from the pieces he's collected and the knowledge he has, the book is probably unbelievable. I plan on grabbing a copy at the next gun show I attend. Haven't been to one in a long time so that's why I don't have it yet.

If I remember correctly that MG was sort of a combo between a 34 and a 42. It was still a machined receiver but lacked semi-auto fire and had a much higher rpm. I'm an MP44 collector but anything that goes boom is neatorama as far as I'm concerned.
I wish somebody like him would do a tell-and-show-all book on the StG44. The last one I got from Collector Grade Pub's is ok but half of it is a lead up to the real story.
