For those that don't know, .45 ACP can be shot in these .455 weblys

However the .455 will not work with the 1911/1911A1

          .45 auto

.45 Automatic can only be shot in Webley .455 revolvers if the back of the cylinder is shaved down approximately 1/16in. then it can be used with half moon clips and the .45 Auto ctg. or the .45 auto rim ctg... You can always tell a conversion as the back of the cylinder is real shiney where it was cut... BILL

How often was this modification done?

I would imagine either when supply lines were short, or I think it would make sense for British troops to modify for .45 ACP usuage when they are carrying tommy guns.

I know the British had a 75mm gun on their tanks which would use 75mm US ammunition.

I would think that most of the modifications were done by US gunsmiths in the 60s so the weapons would have a ample supply of ammo..Here in the US market... .455 has always been hard to get in any quanity in the USA..BILL
