    Rast Gasser Revolver

    Here is a Rast Gasser 8mm that my Dad gave me. It was captured in WWII but not by him. Since it was given to him he does not remember exactly who had it or how it was taken. It has a unique swinging side plate that was copied in the Japanese type 26. Much easier to service and clean than most revolvers.

      Austrian??? So it was carried by Nazi troops then? I was just doing a thread about Nazi revolvers... very neat.

        That thread is why I dug it out. It got me thinking. I have an M1873 French that was carried (limited use) by TR and Free French forces under the Francophil thread if you want to look. I also have an old 6.35mm folding trigger Spanish revolver brought back from WWII. Not by my Dad as he thought it was not quite heavy enough for a fishing sinker so he never would have brought it back. He got it and gave it to me though. It is the only 25ACP revolver that I own. My Dad has some of the Spanish made French revolvers that had limited use. If you want me to borrow them and photgraph them I'll try to find them. One he though to be 32-20 for along time but would never shoot it. It is rough. They are chambered for the 8mm French revolver round a much lower pressure round. I have seen a few revolvers brought back but am not sure how many actually saw use and how many were just taken or bought after the war.

            I have a reference which indicates that these pistols were in use from 1898 to 1938. It doesn't explicitly say it but the date of 1938 would seem to coincide with the Anschluss, so it probably wasn't used by the TR in any capacity.

              Lebel Revolver

              Here is a French 1892 Revolver cal. 8mm Lebel that was brought home by a 101st. Abn. Vet...The French Lebel revolver was definately carried by some second line German Troops.. There is a picture of a Guard at Colditz Prision with one on his belt..BILL

                  Thanks for the photo Bill. Is there any way to tell from the photo if it the holter is for the M92 or M1873? I am going to take you suggestion set up for better photos one day. Here is an M92 that belongs to my son's future father in law. The holster looks a little different. Also included, an M1873 that my Dad obtained. It survived in great shape and still has traces of polish on it that I am not going to remove. These guns were not blued so the soldiers spent a lot of time polishing the steel. I have read some were converted by the Germans to 45ACP but they often did not survive the increased pressure.

                      Yes, I had two Montengrin Gasser revolvers some 25 years ago but unfortunatly I sold them.. They were of very high quality one blue and one Nickel and ingraved.. The blue one was in 9.8 cal. and the Nickel one was in 8mm Lebel..Interesting that there is a model of one in the turn of the century western movie McCABE AND MRS MILLER... BILL

                        Anyway I saw a special on the history channel, they mentioned a 11mm calibre which was a long cartridge.
