what is correct k98 stock finish?

i am restoring a k98 ar 41. all numbers matching but someone cut the end of the wood stock off. I am using a boyds walnut military k98 and it seems to be pretty close to original. i am unsure of the exact technique the original makers used in 1941 to finish the stock and how smooth or rough to make it. i am presuming a good smooth finish then a walnut stain then a coat of linseed oil and a good buffing . but i could be all wet . I need correct info. so far every part including stock and all metal parts are same number and all waffenampts intact and they are every where. a shame the original stock was cut off way back behind the lower band so i could not save it but i am planning to keep it .,with the gun and new stock.today i went to see about drilling the hole in the stock for cleaning rod and i found the boyds people appear to have sent me a stock with the nut hole drilled under the lower barrel band! this will have my correct 12.5 inch cleaning rod sticking way out in front of the barrel! Unless i use the incorrect 10 inch rod. Or i think i will have to fill the messed up hole and drill back and install nut where its supposed to go. Any thoughts? suggestions? Anybody have problems with boyds stocks and them not calling you back?
