Mauser Tool For What Exactly ?

I found this interesting item in amongst some knick-knacks that I got from a veteran this afternoon (yes - it still happens! The guy is 92 years old...) Anyway, I was just wondering what exactly this tool is (i.e. - what it is used for) and whether or not it has much collector appeal. I want to call it a "calibration tool" but I am really not the firearms guy, so I may be way off with my choice of words. Any help is sure to be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It's a tool used by machinists for measuring the outside diameter of whatever they happen to be measuring. Mauser made a lot of gauges and measuring devices after and I think during the war.

          Yup,

Micrometer. Used for precision measurement. Mauser tools are not uncommon. Check Ebay to get an idea of market value. I sold a Mauser dial indicators over there a couple weeks back.

          Best,
          Matt

            In German: Micro-/Mikrometerschraube or Bügelmeßschraube.

Since Mauser is part of Rheinmetall AG (Defence Systems) just as a trade mark they don't produce any longer such measurement tools.

              Thank You!

Thank you, gentlemen, for your input. Much appreciated. Especially the German translation! Now that I know what it's called, it should be a little easier to use the internet to obtain some information relative to it's value. I realize that this is not a "priceless treasure," but I would hate to sell it for $20 if it's really worth $50. Yaknowwhattamasayin?
