Do you still have the original scope, I wouldnt of removed the scope, because that is a part of the guns history, just my .02$.

        Josh,
I took the other scope off so I can shoot the rifle. It's here safe and sound. And if I will it to you I'll be sure to put the scope back on it.

        Jan,
He changed the paperwork for some reason....I think that he still lives here in my hometown. I was going to look him up this weekend to see if I can get some more information from him but I didn't have time. I need to do it to clear up the paperwork.
For years this was overlooked by the previous owner and myself....it wasn't until a couple of years ago that a friend of mine picked up on it. The only saving grace is the acount written down by the vet.
The recent massive imports of these rifles has casued me to lose interest in them to some degree and accounts for my lack of initiative in tracking down the vet.

          Roscoe,

That's interesting to see that you were able to acquire this piece from a Vietnam war vet. I've had lots of luck obtaining souvenir items from WWII vets in my area, but have been unable to get anything from the Vietnam vets. For some reason the Vietnam vets (in my experince) seem to be more emotionally attached to their souvenir items.

I've got a USMC "tunnel rat" vet here in town that has his SKS bring-back carbine, with the original sling fashioned by the VC from the shroud lines of an American parachute. The vet simply will not part with the rifle at any price.

Interestingly, the vet says that he had two (2) AK's (one a fixed stock; the other w/ folding stock) ready to bring back as souvenirs with the SKS. When he went to fill out paperwork like you show with your sniper rifle, the staff told him emphatically that the AK's would not be approved for bring back but the SKS was fine. Thus, he reluctantly abandoned his AK's.

This was pre-1968 so, if he had gotten the AK's back to the U.S. he could have registered them in the '68 amnesty for NFA items. Oh well . . . I guess in some way I'm relieved that he did not get back with the AK's b/c I would be going crazy trying to talk him out of one.

Nice photos - thanks for sharing with us.

            Alan,
I live in a town that is full of Vietnam veterans. Stuff comes up from time to time.
There is a fellow that I know that did bring home an AK from the war and registered it in 1968....he has since sold it but they could bring that stuff home prior to 1968.
Here are a couple of other VN items that I have picked up.
