      The digits and letters are likely Mauser internal manufacturing marks probably intended as a method of monitoring quality. They could represent individual workers, foremen, departments, dates, time...who knows?

      The star of David and the "M" have been said to be the markings of some Weimar naval unit. This was first asserted by that well know authority on all things having to do with German hand guns, Ian Hogg. Like so much of what he wrote, it is pure hogwash.
