From Gunboard forum information, You rifle was reworked to M92/16 system as have the 5 clips loaded in arms,it must be always so marked, some are M16 stamped very weakly on left reciever side, anyway the origin production is of period 1896-98 in Saint Etienne armory.br.Andy
PS when You remove the upper handguard You will find the date of barell probably, the A could be adaptation of new cartridge .
